“Giving Back to the Community” Video Project

Thursday, February 5, 2015 - 3:29pm

Each semester, the Advanced Video Production class in the Commercial Photography program produces a short promotional video for a local non-profit organization or academic program.  It is called the “Giving Back to the Community” video project.  This video production allows students to experience a professional “client” relationship through the class curriculum and work with the non-profit organization to create an effective video that meets the “client’s” messaging and content needs and promotes their mission and objectives. This service is provided pro-bono to the organizations, in exchange for their involvement and access creating an experiential laboratory for the photography/video students.  Through this exchange, the students develop their professional, technical and narrative/storytelling skills.

This short promotional video was produced last semester for the Western Youth Network (WYN), a non-profit in Western North Carolina that serves the youth in the region with after school, mentoring, prevention and summer programs.  This video was developed from concept to the final edit by the Advanced Video Production class in the Commercial Photography program.
